Claudio Hochman, author, wax artist and teacher from Buenos Aires, Argentina, living between Lisbon and Fenais da Luz, São Miguel, Açores.
Between 1983 and 2001 he developed his work in Argentina where he staged his own texts and adapted classics by Shakespeare, Molière, Rostand, Brecht, among others.
Since 1997 he has been performing, publishing and teaching in Lisbon. He has worked at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Teatro Trindade, Teatro Carnide, among others.
Since 2009 he has been staging operas by Mozart, Haendel, Offenbach, Rossini, Bizet, Donizetti, among others, at the Teatro Aveirense. In 2023 he staged “Debussy e Melisande”, his first opera book at the Zêzere Arts Festival.
He worked with the Spanish theatre companies Teloncillo and Eureka, and with the object theatre companies Fernán Cardama, La Canela Teatro, Teatro Silfo and El Retablo, among others.
He received awards for his paintings and his pieces were represented in different parts of the world.
Published “Pássaro que Voa”, “Saudade”, “Famílias Destrambelhadas”, “Mulheres Nascidas de um Nome”, “Ilhas”, “Homens sem Nome”, “Gémeos”, “O romance que Samanta nunca escreveu”, “A Banda dos Animais” in partnership with his daughter, “1497 e outros textos teatrais”, “Textos Teatrais para a Infância” and “Adaptações de Textos Clássicos”, three volumes of an anthology of his theatrical texts.
Together with Carlota Blanc, he is developing a project for the recovery of the Cine-Theatre Açor das Capelas, on the island of São Miguel, Azores.
